Description of Services
- Clipped short - Coats can be left up to a half inch long with the clippers. Clipped cuts will be less expensive as they take less time. They will be the only option for tangled non-shedding type coats. Heads, beards, ears, and/or tails can usually be left longer even if the body is clipped to give your dog his own unique look. Clipped cuts are not recommended for double coated breeds as these breeds have a coat that does not continuously grow. Clipping these coats will cause the quality of the coat to be less protective against the weather. This becomes more apparent the more often the coat is clipped. I recommend only clipping this type of coat if you intend to keep it short all the time.
- Scissor cuts for non shedding breeds - A scissor cut is for any coat length left longer than a half inch. Coats must be well maintained and free of mats and tangles. If you can't get a wide toothed comb through it, I can't leave it long. A matted or tangled coat will be cut as short as needed to get a clipper through it. To maintain a scissored cut, you will need to keep a regular grooming schedule of approximately every 5 - 8 weeks, depending on your dog's specific coat. Frequent brushings at home will also be necessary; the longer the coat is, the more frequently it will require a thorough brushing to avoid developing mats in the coat.
- Patterned Cuts - Some breeds have a patterned cut for their traditional look, such as cocker spaniels, poodles, Irish setters, etc. Patterned cuts will be more expensive than clipping the entire coat short. To create this look, dogs will need to be free of mats in their coat. To maintain this look, you will need to do frequent brushings at home and bring them in for regular groomings. I do not groom for show; I use clippers and scissors when doing these cuts.
- Long, double coats - These are the type of coats found on collies, pomeranians, Great Pyrenees, etc. I recommend leaving these coats as natural as possible, scissoring only enough to give them a nice clean look. They will be thoroughly brushed out and washed and blow dried to help with the shedding. These coats should be well maintained with weekly (or daily during shedding seasons) brushings at home. There should not be large matted areas or thick feces stuck in their fur when they come to me. I expect to brush out loose undercoat only. If they have not been maintained, the grunt work of brushing out tangles and dirty areas should be done at home. There is no special deshedding treatment - my grooming services of brushing, washing, and blow drying will get out most of the loose undercoat. These breeds will continue to have more coat loosening up each and every day, especially during the shedding seasons of spring and fall. To keep the shedding to a minimum, daily brushing during seasonal sheds will be necessary.
- Shorter coats - Whether double coated or not, shorter coated breeds are welcome to come in for groomings as well. Even though no haircut is needed, they will beneift from regular nail trims, bathing and blow drying. It is still a good idea to brush these coats regularly at home.
